Man in the Mirror (or behind the camera)

Mens sewing patterns frustrate me. There isn’t much variety in what I’ve seen, nothing new or exciting, and half of the patterns aren’t anything my brothers would wear.  I mean, how many button down shirt patterns can you make?!

But, I’ve been thinking about some t-shirt designs lately and this is one of them. I’ve been wanting to try out the whole applique thing, and it seems to be a good  way of “decorating” a shirt without it seeming too girly or over decorated. And this shirt is brother-approved! I made it for my brother (also known as my camera man:)) and he actually likes it!

I started with a basic tee:

Hemming and Hawing

Have you ever been looking for a perfect piece of clothing (skirt, dress, capris) that you really want, but that no matter what store you go to, you can never find just the right item? That was me, looking for either a pair of bermuda shorts or a pair of capris. I wanted them to have cute pockets (I’m reallllly picky about pockets:), low rise, that “perfect” shade of blue, and just the right length. And yet this perfect piece of clothing eluded me! UNTIL……..

I was shopping at Goodwill (I really don’t live there.. really;) and came across this pair of Aeropostale jeans, that were my size but… they were a short! And believe me, at 5’9” they weren’t ever going to fit length-wise! They looked like wading pants! But, they had cute pockets, a low rise, and I liked the shade of blue! So, home with me they went where I made them into this!!:

On a side note, I am working on a dress, in this fabric:

Just so you know, that I am still working on real projects!:)

P.S. what do you guys think of shorts (denim or canvas/twill) with tights? Yeah, or big fashion failure? If yeah, what kind of shoes would you wear with it (don’t say combat boots;))?

Why you so Obsessed with Me?

I couldn’t resist using the Mariah Carey song as my title!;) So, you could say I am a little (really! only a little!) obsessed with dying things! But it’s just so easy and I love the results: new clothing without having to actually buy the clothing! This used to be a white peasant top that I wear allll the time! I love it! But, because it is white, it started to show signs of wear in the form of stains!:( So, to JoAnn’s I went to buy a box of RIT dye! I bought the same color that I used for these pants; I really like blue!:)

You can’t really tell in the first picture, but this top has white flowers embroidered on the hem and sleeves. And when I dyed it, they stayed white-ish, which i think makes it look even better. I have found that with a lot of industrial threads, there’s too much nylon in the thread for it to dye properly, (especially embroidery thread) so it doesn’t change color as much!
