Inspiration

Oh my!! Have you ever stumbled upon one of those clothing websites (Free People, Anthropologie:) where you want to buy or make everything on them???? Well, I found another site like that, and let's just say it's worth a look! Ruche is just lovely! I found myself saying "Oh I could make that!" Except for the shoes of course, which I just wanted to buy:) It is my new inspiration!

Something Pink

The before picture of a very ill fitting shirt. I know, everyone's doing a button down project. But, I think it's a good trend! Who knew you could do so much with a shirt??

The after picture. I think it turned out well. And my sister really likes it!:)

Retro Hearts

A bag I made last week. I used Simplicity 5151. I've made it about four times! I bought the heart fabric at a thrift store and the lining is from a yellow m00-m00 (did I spell that right?) also bought at thrift store. I think this looks very retro! I wanted to make a shirt or dress from the heart fabric, but there wasn't enough. So, a bag it was!:)

Lovely Weekend

Here are some pictures of the shirt I made. Sorry, I forgot to take any of me in it!:( The shirt is a vintage Alexander Julian, and I got it from my Papaw, who got it from my Great-Uncle Art. It has history!:)
I wore this to my graduation party and everyone liked it (unless they lied:) I think it's really cute and is a perfect top to wear in the summer! Plus, another great use for a men's button down!:)
I originally got the idea from the Kathy Cano-Murillo book "Crafty Chica’s Guide to Artful Sewing". The book was nice but the instructions for this particular project were not well written. I ended up doing it my way!:)
Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Hopefully you got less sunburn than I did.(ouch!:()

Graduation!!!!

Today is the day of my graduation party! Unofficially anyways. I still have some school left to do, but I'm not thinking of that today!:) I'll post pictures later of what I wore. I made the most adorable (in my opinion:) shirt! I just love it! Bye!:)

Ruffles

A dress I shortened. It used to be much longer, making it look like something you would wear to a party (I wore it to a wedding:). I wanted to be able to wear it more often, but it needed to look more everyday. So, I shortened it and I now have a cute summer dress that I can wear every day! This is one of very few pink things that I own. Experts say red heads shouldn't wear pink!:):)

One pair for Each Day of the Week!

Aren't these tights gorgeous??? I would probably wear them all the time! These and these are quite lovely as well (although Free People has a better version of the feather tights). So someday, when I win the lottery, I'd like one of each!:)

Happy Tuesday!

Some sweatpants I made from the rest of the lovely gray pajamas. The skirt was made from the top, and these pants were made from the bottom. They aren't actually drawstring. I had folded and sewn the casing and was about to put the drawstring in, when I remembered I hadn't made any holes for the drawstring to come out of! I didn't feel like messing with it, so I put in elastic and put the "drawstring" on the outside as decoration.

YAY!! I bought some patterns from McCalls the other day, and I got them in the mail today!! I got them all on sale too! I'll probably make the blue jumper first (M5577) and once I find some decent priced wool (and the courage!) I'll make the coat (M5513). And the other dress is just cute; I don't know when I'll make that (M5804).
I'm really excited that Hilary Duff came out with a pattern line for women and older girls (go here to see the whole collection.) Hopefully she'll add some class to the McCall sewing line!:)

When I raided my little brother's dresser (with his help!) I got a lot of stuff, including a pair of pajamas in a lovely shade of gray. I couldn't make anything for me out of them. So, as always when there's not a lot of fabric, I made something for my niece Victoria. The main panel is from the body of the sweatshirt, and the side panels are from the sleeves. The circles are from various scraps I had laying around. Don't mind their slightly un-circular appearance.:)

Oh, to have a Hat!

Have you ever wondered why nobody makes good hat patterns?? Hats are one of the easiest things to sew; sunhats, non-lumpy bucket hats, and cadet caps should be part of every sewing pattern line, don't you think? Instead, you get stuck with "vintage" hats like these and bucket hats that look like this or this. These might be good to wear. If you were going to a play in which you were Katherine Hepburn( no offense Katherine, I love your movies!) But none look like this or this. I guess you could try and make your own, at the risk of ending up giving it to your toddler niece, because it won't fit your big head!:) It has now become a quest; to find the perfect fabric hat pattern!! Unless one of you readers has figured out the formula for making the perfect hat..... Anyone??:)

Nest of Flowers

This almost makes me wish I had my waist length hair back!:) I suppose I could do it with shoulder length hair, but it might not go all the way around my head.:) *Sigh*:)

Blues and Greens

I made this shirt for my sister, Bethany. The green check is from an old dress I thrifted; and the light blue is from an old pair of culottes. The pattern is Simplicity 8244, and it's about 25 to 30 years old.:) I use it a lot. I'll probably have to cut it out on sturdier paper, one of these days...
